Anti-Bully Programs

2009-2010

  • Addressed at first meeting with staff, first day with students and follow up meetings with students in homerooms
  • Homeroom staff goes over with students anti-bully policy & tips for dealing w/ bullies= info in agenda books
  • Character Ed Program – breakfast, word of the month
  • Bully Prevention Box - anonymous
  • Poster contest during American Ed Week
  • Guidance went into each classroom to discuss/role play about bullying – Fall 2009
  • Mentor program (peer and adult)
  • Peer mediation
  • Assemblies:  Camfel Productions, Big AL, FBI rep came in to address cyber-bullying with 8th,  A Vision in Motion, Soren Beck Productions = skits, Sgt. Swanson

  • 8th grade – extra credit for completion of anti-bully/anti-violence reading counts books – list attached
  • 7th grade – Mr. Mazzuca’s team time cycle that all students are part of focused on Character Building, and used book MONSTER  by Walter Dean Myers
  • 6th grade – Mrs. Menna’s team time cycle that all students are part of focused on Teaching Tolerance and Bullying, and used book Freak The Mighty  by Rodman Philbrick
  • All health classes – PE and guidance staff implemented anti-bully lessons
  • Survey given to students to determine presence of bullying/hot spots
  • Guidance lunch groups for students with difficulty socializing
  • “Mix-it-up at lunch” days – encourage students to sit with someone other than usual table
  • “Do Good” awards – weekly

  • Activities during Anti-Violence and Red Ribbon Week
  • Team time lessons - 2009-10 school goal for all grade levels – implement a minimum of two character ed lessons each month during Team Time
  • Character Education Committee will be meeting all year to improve and organize the many different initiatives we have in place, with goal to implement uniform Character Education program that addresses bullying and other issues – programs discussed include “Purple Hands Pledge” and SIX PILLARS
